Packing for a jungle- Ultimate guide

Planning to go on a wildlife trip?? To enjoy the scenic beauty and spot wildlife, you should take necessary permits first, arrange for a guide (naturalist) and do the necessary planning. Here we shall discuss about the things you should carry for your jungle adventure.

Packing list for jungle trip

  1. Clothes – Depending on the season, you need to do the packing. Remember, mornings and nights in jungles are usually cold. Most important point is not to take bright colors but preferably muted jungle colors (neutral & earth shades like beige, brown, green). If you are traveling around winters then check the weather and usual temperature of the jungle you are going to and carry the necessary layers of warm clothing accordingly. For summers light colored , comfortable clothes. And for rain forests, water proof clothing.
  2. Insect repellant with DEET (diethyl-metatoluamide) and Anti-itch cream for insects bites
  3. Good digital camera or video camera with extra battery , your lenses ideally zoom lens & tripod. Caution is not to get engrossed in taking wildlife photos. Idea is to experience wildlife & jungle moments first and then take memorable shots.
  4. Hat/Cap, sunscreen and sunglasses to protect yourself from sun
  5. Sturdy shoes comfortable for walking
  6. Binoculars.
  7. Medications- Personal medication if any along with the prescription & First aid including malaria shots .
  8. Anti-bacterial soap, toiletries or gel
  9. Flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries
  10. Swiss army style knife
  11. Plastic bags (zip lock bags and a larger trash bag)
  12. Snack & Water

For Packing

  • One backpack/Easy to manage suitcase.
  • Daypack

First Aid Kit that might include:

  • Motion sickness medication
  • Sunburn salve such as aloe vera gel

Do’s and don’t in a jungle trip

  • Drive slow when inside the jungle, and without any music being played or loud talks. Infact the quiter one can be the more are the chances of spotting wildlife.
  • Avoid the disturbance to the wildlife.Keep safe distance from animals.
  • Stick to the known routes and guided trails.
  • Don’t feed animals in jungle.
  • No bright clothes or strong perfumes.
  • No smoking or bon fire or anything of that sort.
  • Carry a sense of adventure and awe about wildlife and jungle. It is quite unlike going to a zoo, here you need patience to spot wildlife in their natural habitat. Whether you see a tiger or a lion, you should learn to marvel at everything around you in jungle. Being in jungle itself is cool enough.
