What to Expect

There’s nothing like the satisfaction of approaching Machu Picchu on one’s own two feet, which is why the classic Inca Trail hike has become so popular in recent years. Admittedly the Inca Trail is the only trek to Machu Picchu that actually arrives directly at the famous Inca ruin, via the impressive Inti Punku (Sun Gate). This trail shows magnificent mountains range, exotic vegetation and extraordinary ecological variety. The trail runs over high mountains. You see beautiful mountain scenery, cloud-forests, subtropical jungle and lots of Inca paving stones, ruins and tunnels.  You will arrive at Machu Picchu, the mysterious “Lost City of the Incas” via the famous Sun Gate.

  • Embark from Ollantaytambo, one of South America's oldest villages
  • Crossover Dead Woman's Pass for breathtaking views of Pumahuanca
  • Descend the Winaywayna terraces and through the Sun Gate
  • Visit the Phuyupatamarca, "the place above the clouds"
