Even before the Himalayas rose into existence, Mount Kailash towered above them. The Kailash Range is 30 million years old and its supreme peak , the 6,675 meters high Mount Kailash was formed of shinning granite with its white glacial crest, was already a huge structure even when the Himalayas were just beginning to Protrude out of the Tethys Sea. To Hindus it is the earthy embodiment of the dominant mountain of heaven, Meru, and the residence of Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati. To Tibetans it is Sumeru, the cosmic centre of the universe. Consequently, Mount Kailash has held a great charm for pilgrims for centuries. It is said that one has to be fortunate to take this yatra. The first darshan Kailash gives you the exceptional divine feeling. The more you go closer the more you will be attracted and surrender yourself to this divine power which attracts you more towards it. Mount Kailash is ringed on all sides by six diiferent mountain ranges including the Nandi Parvat which makes it virtually inaccessible to human touch. Stretching to the North of Mount Kailash is the Mansarovar Lake. A fresh water lake at 14,950 feet above sea level, it is world’s highest fresh water lake. A sight so impressive that you would not forget it anytime soon. Other than Hinduism, both the mountain and the lake is highly revered in Buddhism and Jainism.
