Lhasa literally means “place of the gods”. Originally, Lhasa was called Rasa was a town built by the Otang lake. The city is also renowned as “The Forbidden City”,the city was romantically imaged to possess inconceivable treasures, to preserve ancient wisdom and to be home to great mystics and saints. Being one of the highest cities in the world, Lhasa has been the religious and administrative capital of Tibet since the mid 17th century. Situated in the centre of the Tibetan Plateau with the surrounding picturesque mountains and scenic lakes. In this era of modernisation, Lhasa remains a fantastic cultural hybrid whose streets bustle with a diverse mix of people. It is home to multiple Tibetan-Buddhist temple which are of immense historical significance such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Palace, and Norbulingka Palaces.

Covering the most ancient as well as those listed under UNESCO World Heritage sites, this 8 Nights/ 9 Days itinerary presents you the best of Lhasa in an altogether a unique way to explore not only the cultural and spiritual aspects but yourself amidst the world’s highest natural lake and wildlife.
You will be transferred from the airport to your hotel in Kathmandu where you can relax and are refreshed up.

Our morning drive will be taking us from Kerung town (2800m/9186ft) to Shelkar (4,300m/14107ft), which is infamously known for the Shelkar Monastery which was built in 1264 in Tibet. Shelkar Choedhey Monastery was situated at a place, which was by Tibetans, considered spiritually sacred site which we will be visiting after cheking in our hotel upon arriving in Shelkar.

Today, we will head towards Shigatse (3,900m/12795ft), which is the second largest city in Tibet and is the former capital of the traditional Tibetan region of Tsang.
Check in at hotel. Post this we will be visiting, Tashilhunpo Monastery which is the home monastery of the line of Panchen Lamas, the most influential line of lama’s in Tibet after the Dalai Lama. And nearby to Tashilhunpo Monastery is the newly rebuilt Shigatse Dzong. Next up are the Sakya Monastery and Narthang Monastery.

This an exploration day as we will start our day by visiting the Palcho Monastery and Gyantse Dzong which is one of the best preserved dzongs in Tibet, perched high above the town of Gyantse on a huge spur of grey brown rock.
After this, we will embark to Noijin Kangsang where you are free to spend your time to sightsee, pray and meditate.
Return to Hotel.

After a wholesome breakfast, we will embark towards Lhasa (3,650m/11975ft).

Today, you can let your body to acclimatize to high altitude.
Rest of your time can be spent on exploring the town because allowing self to explore helps one to understand better and attain a different kind of peace.

After Breakfast, we will journey towards, the Jokhang, Tibet’s most holy and most famous temple. It is the most sacred temple in all of Tibet and is one of those “can’t miss” attractions. In the afternoon, you will be visiting Sera Monastery and see the famous Buddhist philosophy debates that the monks take place in each day.
We will also tour through the Tibet Museum and Lukhang, a secret temple of Lozang Gyatso, 5th Dalai Lama. Three walls of the temple are covered with murals of yogis engaged in their exercises.
Finally, for our last destination we will visit the Monument to the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet and take a small evening walk there.

Inthe morning, we will be to the Potala Palace to view the sunrise and then explore the inside of the Potala Palace. Afterwards, you will be free to walk the pilgrimage route around Potala.
Post this, we will be visiting Norbulinka (the Dalai Lama’s summer palace), Drepung Monastery, Sangkhung Nunnery and Ramoche Temple.
Evening can be spent at leisure by exploring the town.
