The Venice Carnival or Carnevale di Venezia is an extraordinary world-famous annual festival of two weeks held in Venice, Italy, before Ash Wednesday (Christian holiday) until Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday or Martedì Grasso), the day before Ash Wednesday. Being held during pre-Lent, the festival apparently bids farewell to meat, throughout Italy.
Consisting of two months of carousing during its initial days during the 11th century, it slowly started perishing towards the 18th century, where a series of balls were held in the St Mark’s Square. Revived with a prodigious success in 1979, it became a sheer resolution to smear some vibrant makeup, masks, and costumes, enjoy the live music and parade around the city.
Enjoy the events organized by the tourist board in the main squares of the city and stroll around the magnificent open-air festival with thousands of people around the world. Capture some amazing reminiscences of the festival with Eccentric attires displayed in St Mark’s Square and Venice posturing as the perfect milieu. Behold the fresco on the walls of the famous café Quadri’s describing the masquerade and game on in the Ridotto Gambling casino with some brit-brags where fortunes were disbursed every night of Carnival, despite the social status they belonged to, people remained connected and relished every bit, so can you!
